About the playground

The playground is located on a parcel of land generously set aside by the Town of Sunapee at Tilton Park, is easily accessible from the parking lot on 103B, and is beautifully visible from 103B.  Tilton Park is just up the road from the Sunapee Tourist Information Center, the Sunapee Town Hall, and the intersection of Route 11 and 103B.  The playground is also a short walk from Sunapee Harbor and in close proximity to convenient store, gas station, pizza, ice cream, shops, and the post office.

The playground is intended for public purposes to be used by residents and visitors to the Lake Sunapee region – adults and children alike.

Our goal since Day One has been to build a safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate playground for kids ages 0-12 that encourages thinking, communication, cooperation and exercise.  Environmental sensitivity and health safety are paramount to the Peirce family and the Town of Sunapee.  We spent the greater part of 12 months over the 2009-2010 period researching companies that would be able to deliver products with these priorities in mind as well as equipment that would challenge children physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.  Creative thinking and imagination play have been equally as important in the consideration of playground equipment as physical exercise.  We have explored themes that will enhance this type of play, respect the natural setting of the playground, reflect the history of the region, and that complement the overall vision of Tilton Park.

In January, 2010, Kompan was chosen as our playground manufacturer with John LaRue as our Kompan representative.  His information can be found at the bottom of this page.  Kompan was chosen because it leads the industry in maintaining the highest standards for both safety and environmental sustainability.  For more information about Kompan’s standards for safety and environmental sustainability, click here.
