The Lynne Peirce Memorial Playground Trust Fund
The Lynne Peirce Memorial Playground Trust Fund has been established by the Town of Sunapee and the Peirce family for the purposes of building and maintaining a playground in memory of Lynne Peirce. The Fund is intended to be maintained in perpetuity for the benefit of the playground by providing funds for the perpetual purchase, installation, maintenance, and replacement of playground equipment. Contributions to the Fund are intended to be fully deductible charitable contributions.
The Town has generously offered to separately fund all expenses related to the preparation and maintenance of the site upon which the playground will sit – as part of the overall development and maintenance of Tilton Park.
Tax deductibility
Section 170 (a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code states: “There shall be allowed as a deduction any charitable contribution (as defined in subsection (c)) payment of which is made within the taxable year.” Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code states: “for purposes of this section, the term ‘charitable contribution’ means a contribution or gift to or for the use of a State, a possession of the United States, or any political subdivision of any of the foregoing but only if the contribution or gift is made for exclusively public purposes.”
Because the Fund is to be used for public purposes, donations to it shall be fully tax deductible. However, donors should consult with their tax advisor to confirm the deductibility of any contribution made to the Fund.
