About your contribution

The Lynne Peirce Memorial Playground Trust Fund

The Lynne Peirce Memorial Playground Trust Fund has been established by the Town of Sunapee and the Peirce family for the purposes of building and maintaining a playground in memory of Lynne Peirce.  The Fund is intended to be maintained in perpetuity for the benefit of the playground by providing funds for the perpetual purchase, installation, maintenance, and replacement of playground equipment.  Contributions to the Fund are intended to be fully deductible charitable contributions.

The Town has generously offered to separately fund all expenses related to the preparation and maintenance of the site upon which the playground will sit – as part of the overall development and maintenance of Tilton Park.

Tax deductibility

Section 170 (a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code states:  “There shall be allowed as a deduction any charitable contribution (as defined in subsection (c)) payment of which is made within the taxable year.”  Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code states:  “for purposes of this section, the term ‘charitable contribution’ means a contribution or gift to or for the use of a State, a possession of the United States, or any political subdivision of any of the foregoing but only if the contribution or gift is made for exclusively public purposes.”

Because the Fund is to be used for public purposes, donations to it shall be fully tax deductible.  However, donors should consult with their tax advisor to confirm the deductibility of any contribution made to the Fund.

Use of funds

The Trust will be a permanently restricted fund, held in trust by the Town of Sunapee Trustees of the Trust Funds with all principal, interest and appreciation relating to or arising out of the Fund to be used for the construction, operation, maintenance and improvement of playground equipment to be installed in a playground to be situated in the Town of Sunapee, New Hampshire on Ski Tow Hill Road on land owned by the Town.
No portion of the Fund shall be used to secure bonding or to pay premiums on any bond(s) for the playground equipment.  No portion of the Fund shall be used for the Town’s general purposes or for any purpose other than as set forth in the Trust.
Any portion of the Fund that is not used toward the purchase and installation of playground equipment at the time the playground is constructed and equipped, in 2009 and/or 2010, may be used for the future purchase and installation of additional playground equipment, and the continued maintenance and replacement of playground equipment only.
Contribution acknowledgement
The Peirce family expects the Town to acknowledge each donation to the Fund by providing the donor with a written receipt that complies with the requirements of the Internal Revenue Code for acknowledgement of a tax deductible contribution.
The Peirce family will also send you a thank you letter for your generosity.

The family of Lynne Peirce and the Town of Sunapee are grateful for your contributions to the Lynne Peirce Memorial Playground or “Nona Playground.” Lynne would be so incredibly touched to know that you have made a contribution in her memory for the development and maintenance of a playground in Sunapee, NH.
